9. Airport Check-In: Board last.

If you are a baby or toddler, I would recommend you wait until everyone has boarded before you get onto the plane. The chances are , they will still want to be on you or run around and play, so there is no point stressing them out and buckling them down in their seats.

It is important to board the plane last when travelling with kids for several reasons:

  1. Reduced stress: Boarding the plane last can reduce stress for both the children and the accompanying adults, as they will not have to wait in line and can instead relax in the airport lounge until boarding is complete. I don’t enjoy standing up in a queue in front of the departure gate when children are tired and bored. I would rather they relax and watch a show on their ipads while we wait for the queue to go down, then board.
  2. More time to prepare: Boarding allows more time to prepare for the flight, such as using the restroom, stretching, or getting a snack. This can help reduce stress and ensure that the children are comfortable during the flight. Isla is six now so can wait to checkin in last or is happy to board first, but the more time you spend outside tiring them out, the better for you, as they will drop off to sleep the minute that plane takes off.
  1. Ease of storage: By boarding last, you can easily store your carry-on bags in the overhead compartments without having to scramble for space. This can be especially important when travelling with kids and their belongings. Nobody is going to pinch your seats anyway so there is no need to rush onboard.
  2. Improved comfort: Boarding last allows you to settle into your seats and get comfortable before takeoff. This can be especially important when travelling with kids, as they may need time to adjust and get comfortable before the flight.
