This is guide on how to introduce a facial oil into your skincare routine. There are still a lot of confusion as to how to apply a facial oil so I have broken this down into simple steps. This is suitable for all skin-tones and types.
Step 1: Remove Makeup
- This step is the very first one if you are a regular makeup user.
- We recommend using an oil-based makeup remover as this will be gentle on your skin and will not remove the essential oils already on your skin. You do not want to over-strip your skin which can lead to irritation.
- Remove eye-makeup using a natural oil of your choice. We recommend Extra Virgin Olive Oil. This is very gentle and natural on your skin.
Step 2: Cleanse
- We recommend using a small amount on your fingertips to apply.
- Gentle massage the cleanser over your face and neck, ensuring that the cleansing liquid reached every nook and cranny on your face.
- Use a gentle cleansing cloth to encourage this to come off.
- Remove with a reusable cotton round pad or face towel. You might need a few to clean your face thoroughly.
Step 3: Tone
- Using a gentle water-based toner will remove all the extra dirt that is still remaining on your face. Hydrosols are perfect as toners. Stay away from alcohol-based toners as they cause over-drying and are more harmful for your skin than good .
- Use glycolic acid as a toner for better skin-newel results as this encourages new cell growth.
Step 4: Serum Application
- At this stage you can add your favourite serum such as hyaluronic acid or Vitamin C.
- Benefits of Vitamin C – A powerful antioxidant that can help fight against the oxidation on your skin which can be very damaging.
- Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid: Adds flexibility to your skin and gives it an extra plump, reducing wrinkles.
Step 5: Moisturise Application
- Using a small amount on both finger-tips, apply evening on your face and neck using gentle circular motions.
- Let your skin drink in the moisturiser naturally and do not over-rub.
- You can re-apply more moisturiser if you have very dry skin.
Step 6: Facial Oil Application
- Last but not least, seal your moisturiser and serum ingredients using facial oil. We recommend our Volcanic Miracle Oil.
- A facial oil helps to clock in your skin’s moisture creating that natural balance after washing and toning.
- A facial oil should not be greasy as you want your skin to breathe but also inject key botanical ingredients into your skin to help rejuvenate, heal and nourish it.
Step 7: Sun Screen ( Day Only)
- Apply your sunscreen of choice last if this is not already included in your makeup for the next step.
- The number one cause of skin damage comes from the sun so use this step in the morning.
- Yes, coloured skin can crack and cause cancer too. Remember, prevention is better than cure. Start now.
